Board of Trustees
The board is composed of five trustees, who are appointed by the governor of Washington State with the consent of the Senate. The board of trustees acts as a unit. As such, it represents the public interest and functions to ensure the basic fiscal integrity of the college.
Members of the Board Gidget Terpstra, Board Chair Appointed: July 2004. Reappointed: October 2008. Trustee Terpstra served as the District Homeless Education Liaison and Readiness to Learn Family Advocate with the Shoreline Public Schools, and is active in many organizations serving North King County.
Phil Barrett, Board Vice Chair Appointed: March 2010. Trustee Barrett is a Retired Software Executive, is a strong supporter of public schools and volunteers at his children's school.
Shoubee Liaw Appointed: December 2005. Reappointed: October 2010. Trustee Liaw has worked for the Shoreline and Seattle School Districts and DSHS and serves on a number of statewide associations and committees.
Roger Olstad Appointed: October 2006. Reappointed: October 2011. Trustee Olstad was a science education professor at the University of Washington from 1964 to 1995, a Boeing Endowed Professor from 1990-1995, worked as a consultant to numerous local, state, national and international groups and is a member of a number of advisory committees.
Jerry Smith Appointed: October 2007. Trustee Smith has worked in the automotive industry for over 30 years, is the owner and President of several automobile dealerships in Northern Washington and has been involved with Shoreline Community College's Automotive Program since its inception in the late 1970s.

Board of Trustees Meetings Meetings of the Board of Trustees are open to the public and are scheduled in advance.
2012 BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETINGS (Approved by the Board of Trustees: October 26, 2011 Regular Meeting) WAC 132G-104-010 (Time and Place of Board Meetings) and Policy 7511 (Meetings of the Board of Trustees) of the Shoreline Community College Board of Trustees Bylaws state, “The Board of Trustees shall hold one regular meeting on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 4:00 pm and such special meetings may be requested by the Chair of the Board or by a majority of the members of the Board and announced in accordance with law.”
The Regular Meeting dates for calendar year 2012:
1Third Wednesday in March. 2The November and December 2012 meetings are combined with the meeting scheduled for the first Wednesday in December.

Legal power and responsibility for the operation of Shoreline Community College rests with the board of trustees. The board of trustees establishes and reviews college policies and oversees the general management of funds and properties.
