Coaching Staff

 

Mark, Raquel, and Matt WestHead Coaches Mark West and Raquel Chumpitaz-West came to Shoreline in 1997 as co-Head Coaches. They have over 35 years of coaching experience together at a variety of levels. They have played Volleyball for over 50 years and are working with 10-12 Boys and Girls teams throughout the year. Mark West is a graduate of George William's College in Downers Grove, IL where he received a Bachelors Degree in Economics and Political Science and a Certificate in International Relations while studying in Mexico City, Mexico at UNAM. He played Division I college volleyball while at George William's and competed at the National Sports Festival in  Colorado Springs, played in the Liga de Honor for Carabanchal Volleyball Team in Madrid Spain, and in New York City for Creole Six-Pack and competed in the Empire State Games. Coach West became part of the SCC coaching staff in 1996 as an Assistant Coach.  Raquel Chumpitaz-West's volleyball career has taken her to many points on the globe. She has played both internationally and professionally through her participation in the Olympic Games, the South American Championships, the World Games, the European Games, and the Pan-American Games . In addition, she has participated in 17 other international tournaments in 35 different countries. In 1995 Raquel was recognized by the Peruvian Sports foundation as one of the best sports women in Peru. More recently, Raquel has coached and taught at North Seattle Community College where she was the Head Coach for the volleyball club. Assistant Coach - Lory Hidano (1st Year Assistant)

Lory Hidano is in her first season at the assistant coach for SCC Volleyball but in 4th year coaching at Space Needle VF which SCC coaches Raquel and Mark West own and operate. For the previous two seasons she coached the Space Needle U16s. She has her Impact Certificate and First Aid/CPR Certificate. Lory is also the head JV coach at Roosevelt High School. She is currently an elementary school counselor and social worker in the Highline School District. Lory played competitive volleyball in Hawaii while in high school and went on to play for the Seattle Pacific University Falcons. After graduating from SPU, Lory taught in a Japanese public school and international school and coached in Japan for several years. She is proud to say that she has visited all 47 Japanese prefectures.
