Automotive General Service Technician (GST) - IBEST
Mark Hankins, Instructor
Mark Hankins has worked at Shoreline Community College since 1991. During his first ten years with the College, he developed and taught the Honda PACT program. He has also served as dean for the automotive and manufacturing programs, and worked with a grant from the National Science Foundation to develop programs to support manufacturing in Washington state. He directed a state grant to establish the Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME). He is certified as an ASE Master Auto Technician and Advanced Engine Performance Specialist The General Service Technician (GST) program is a three-quarter job training program designed primarily for students interested in introductory automotive training. This program includes integrated basic education skills training (IBEST) and is team-taught by an automotive instructor and a basic education skills instructor. English as a Second Language students or students who desire further basic skills development are encouraged to apply. For the third quarter internship, students find jobs in dealerships, independent auto repair shops, or other automotive businesses. Students earn a certificate of proficiency upon graduation.
