Where do I get my Student Identification number (SID)?

If you applied for admissions online, you will receive an e-mail with your SID. If you applied for admissions in person, you will receive a letter in the mail with your SID.  If you are a current or returning student to look up your SID online.

 

Where do I get my college identification card?

Get your college ID card at the Library. You will need your schedule and one form of photo ID. Contact the Library if you have any questions (206-546-4556).

 

Where do I get my pin #?

Your pin number is your 6 digit birth date. (MMDDYY)

Do I need to reapply if I have attended Shoreline CC in the past?

No. Contact us and we can reactivate you student accounts.

 

I try to register online and it tells me that I need to have an advising/registration appointment, how can I get that?

 

Do I have to have an advising/registration appointment if I am only taking one class or have a bachelor's degree?

 

No. Call 206-546-4611 and we can get you set up for online registration

 

Records

 

I did not do as well in a class as I had hoped, can I re-take it?

Yes, you can repeat a course an additional two times to improve a grade, but credit is applied only once.  To repeat a course, register for the course and then fill out and submit the Repeated Course Notice to Records in the FOSS Building.  Only the highest grade for the course will be used in computing the grade point average.  The lower grade remains on the transcript and is designated with an "R" to indicate the course has been repeated. (Only decimal grades are used in GPA calculation, this includes "V" grades.)

 

Can I transfer credits from another college to Shoreline CC?

Yes.  To transfer credits from another college you will need to have your official transcripts from that college sent to our Admissions Office.  To have your incoming transcripts evaluated for a transfer degree please fill out the Transfer Degree Request for Transcript Evaluation form and return it to Enrollment Services.  If you are taking classes for a certificate program please contact your program advisor for an evaluation. (Please note: Only Shoreline credits show on your Shoreline transcript.)

 

My health insurance needs proof that I am a full time student, how can I get  this?

Enrollment Verifications can only be made after the 10th day of each quarter.  There are two ways a student can obtain an enrollment verification.  You can, enter your SID and PIN and you will be taken the National Clearing House website.  Follow the directions on the screen to print out your verification.  If you need a signed letter with the college seal you can fill out the Request for Enrollment Verification form and submit it to Enrollment Services.  Please allow a minimum of 3 business days for your request to be completed. I just checked my transcript and I am missing a grade. What do I do?

First, contact your instructor or the division office. This is the first stop on your grade's journey. If you have already gone through this first step and still don't have what you need, contact the Registrar's office, located on the main floor of the FOSS building.

 

How do I change my name on my Shoreline records?

You need to submit a Student Information Update form which can be downloaded by clicking here. Name changes require photo ID and legal court (notarized) documents. Please submit to Records located on the main floor of the FOSS.

 

Registration

I am on a waitlist for a class, what do I do next?

If a spot opens up for you in the class before the quarter starts you will automatically be enrolled. You can check the status of the waitlist online by clicking here. The automatic waitlist shuts off after the third day of the quarter so if you have not been officially added to the class by this time, you will need to get permission from the instructor to add the class.

 

How can I get a copy of my current course schedule?

To view and/or print a copy of your current schedule .

 

Are grades mailed out at the end of each quarter?

No, grades are not mailed to students.  To view your grade for a quarter "Grades and Unofficial Transcripts" page.  Follow the directions on the page and you will be able to view your grades.

 

I got dropped from my classes because I did not pay my tuition.  What should I do to get back into my classes?

If you were dropped from your classes before the quarter started you can re-register for your classes.  However, if one or more classes are now full you will need to put yourself on the waitlist.  If you were dropped after the quarter has started and it is after the 5th day of classes you will have to get instructor permission for each class for which you wish to re-register.

 

When is my tuition due?

If you register before the quarter starts generally your tuition is due within 5 business days or the first day of the quarter whichever comes first.  If you register after the quarter starts your tuition is due within 24 hours.  Deferment options are available.  You can contact Registration at (206) 546-4611 for more information.

 

Can I drop a class after the quarter starts?

Yes, you can drop classes after the quarter starts.  Starting the 11th day of the quarter you will need to get instructor permission to drop a class, the class will show as a "W" on your transcript for withdrawal, and you be charged a $15 add/drop fee.  No "W" will be given after the first day of the seventh week.  Instead the student will need to contact the instructor about withdrawal options.

 

Through the first week of the quarter you get an 100% refund for the tuition that was paid if you drop a class.  If you drop a class the second week and third weeks of the quarter you get a 50% refund*.  No refunds are granted after the third week of the quarter.

 

*Summer quarter deadlines differ.  Please refer to the Summer class schedule.

 

Can I add a class after the quarter starts?

Yes, you can add classes during the first week of the quarter if the class is open.  If the class is full you will need permission from the instructor.  During the second week of the quarter* you will need instructor permission to add a class even if the class is open.  During the third week and fourth weeks of the quarter* you will need permission from the instructor and the division dean to add a class, plus you will be charged a $15 add/drop fee.

 

*Summer quarter deadlines differ.  Please refer to the Summer class schedule.

 

Do senior citizens get discounted  tuition?

Yes.  Students age 60 and older qualify for the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver.  Under this program a student pays a $5.00 non-refundable fee per quarter plus per credit college fees.  The $5.00 fee does not include special fees  specific to individual classes, such as computer lab fees.  The student will be required to pay any and all special fees.  Senior Waiver students can take up to 2 classes for the quarter at this discounted rate.  Students should go to class beginning the first week and get the instructors signature to register on the Senior Tuition Waiver form (see below).  Senior Waiver students can register for classes on the 6th day of the quarter (4th day for Summer quarter) and payment is due 24 hours after registration.

 

To take advantage of this waiver, students must download a waiver form.  Students must get permission from an instructor to sign up for a class using the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver form. 

 

Is the State Employee waiver offered at Shoreline?

State employees, including Shoreline CC employees, can qualify for a tuition waiver at Shoreline.  Under this program a state or Shoreline CC employee must pay a $20.00 non-refundable fee per quarter plus per credit college fees and any special fees specific to individual classes.  Students who use this waiver can register for up to 6 credits per quarter at this discounted rate.  Both state employees and Shoreline CC employees must also have their Human Resources department fill out a section on their waiver form.  Under a tuition waiver, students must wait until the 6th day of the quarter (4th day for Summer quarter) to officially register for a class.  Tuition and fees are due within 24 hours of registration.

 

To take advantage of this waiver, students must download a waiver form.  Students must get permission from an instructor to sign up for a class using the State Employee Tuition Waiver form. 

 

I tried to register online but a message appears that says there is a Flag on my record.  What does this mean?

A Flag on your record could mean that you owe tuition and/or fees from a previous quarter, you have a parking ticket, you have a library fine, or some other block that prevents registration until it is taken care of by the student.  It could also mean you have a hold on your record if you are part of a special program like Running Start, CEO, Workfirst, etc.  If you are part of a special program you will not be able to register online.  To find out what the Flag is and how to take care of it please call Registration at (206) 546-4611.

I am taking an online class this quarter, how can I access my class?

To access an online or hybrid class you will need to go to the Blackboard website by clicking here.  Your username and password will be as follows:

 

Username = first letter of first name + the first 4 letters of last name + last  4 number of SID Password = last 5 numbers of SID

How can I find out what my registration date is for the next quarter?

 

For continuing students, to find out when you are able to register for classes for the next quarter follow the directions on this next screen.

 

In general, continuing students with 75+ credits will be able to register on the first day registration opens.  Students with 45-74 credits will be able to register on the second day.  Students with 30-44 credits can register on the third day.  Students with 15-29 can register on the fourth day and students with 0-14 credits can register on the fifth day.

 

How can I contact my instructor?

To contact an instructor you can search for them on the campus directory or view a list of instructors and staff by division.

 

How many credits can I register for each quarter?

Students may register for up to 18 credits online.  To register for more than 18 credits a student will need to fill out a Class Registration Form and submit it to Registration in the FOSS building.  To register for more than 23 credits a student will need to speak to an advisor and get their signature on the registration form.

Graduation

I don't know if I am on track to graduate? Have I taken the right courses?

The first step is to consult with your advisor. Next you will need to Apply for Graduation. If you are in a professional/technical program, consult your program advisor.

 

What type of degree should I apply for, what are the differences? I am confused about and B.

is a direct transfer to most of the 4-year colleges in the state.

 

Will transfer to the UW and most out of state colleges. is not a direct transfer.

Consult your advisor if you need assistance in deciding which degree to apply for.

 

How many total credits do I need to graduate?

90 credits are required for the , 90 for the and Associate of Science, Track 1 and 2 degrees.

 

How many credits can transfer in from another college if I am not presently attending Shoreline?

If you are no longer attending Shoreline, we can transfer in up to 10 credits. If you are attending Shoreline, you may transfer in as many credits as are needed to meet the requirements.

 

What do I mark on the "Transcript Request" form if I want a transcript sent after my degree is posted?

Be sure to mark "After Degree Posts" in order to have your evaluation done in a timely manner and your official transcript sent to the 4-year college. This form may be submitted toward the end of the quarter in which you plan to graduate.

 

When will I receive my diploma?

Your diploma will arrive approximately 10 - 12 weeks after your degree has been posted and the diploma list has been submitted. (This depends on the quarter, as Spring typically takes longer to process.)

 

Is there an application fee when I apply to graduate? If so, how much?

There is a $20.00 graduation application fee which applies only to degrees.

 

What if I apply for more than one degree?

The $20.00 fee is good for all degree applications for one academic year (Fall through Summer)

 

What happens if I don't graduate?

There will be no additional charge if you apply to graduate another quarter within the same academic year.

 

What about Certificates of Proficiency?

There is no application fee for certificates.
