Associate of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree Updated 6/13/2010

Course format

CAPTheory is presented in lectures. Laboratory projects or other assignments reinforce lectures and provide hands-on experiences simulating on-the-job activities. All HIIM classes are now online. Some non-HIIM prefixed classes, are available in online format, or on campus, or in hybrid format. Professional Practice Experience is provided in which the student is assigned to one or more clinical sites in the field.

Program requirements

Students are required to confer with HIIM program faculty for curriculum planning due to prerequisite requirements in many courses and because not all courses are offered each quarter.   There are several types of plans that students can choose to complete their curriculum.  Two suggested sequences are provided to you below for full-time students and one for part-time students.  It is important to meet with an HIIM faculty member to advise you.

A quantitative reasoning (QR) course is required by the college for all students graduating from an Associate Degree or Certificate of Proficiency program.  MATH 070 and MATH 080 (and higher level math courses), CIS 105 Computer Applications, BUSTC 150 Excel all meet this requirement.  Other approved QR courses are found at http://www.shoreline.edu/ApprovedListGEDCoreCourseRequirements.pdf
