HelenaHelena Azevedo

Brazilian pianist Helena Azevedo became involved in music at a very young age. Helena's formal music education consists of a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master of Music in Piano Performance at the University of Texas at Austin. She also completed the coursework for a Doctorate in Piano Performance at U.T. Austin. Highlights of Helena's performance career and awards include the following: Guest Soloist with the Belem Symphony, Brazil; Prize Winner, "Debut Tour Competition" (LMC), and several performances in local prestigious venues like the SAM, Frye Museum, and Benaroya Hall. Helena loves to spend time with her family, travel back to her native country, hike around the Pacific Northwest, and live music.

Susan Dolacky received her Master of Music degree in Vocal performance from the University of Southern California and BA in Music Education from Central Washington University. She is coordinator for the vocal program and has developed many courses such as Diction for Singers and Voice/Dance Performance Techniques, a movement class for singers. She co-produces and music directs the winter opera workshop which includes operatic scenes and one-act operas with chamber orchestra and the spring musical. In 2009 she was awarded the Exceptional Faculty Award, an honor voted by the faculty, staff, and Administration at Shoreline Community College.

 


 

BarryBarry Ehrlich

Barry Ehrlich teaches music theory, music appreciation and low brass and is a graduate of San Francisco State University (Bachelor of Music) and California State University, Hayward (Master of Music). He has been a member of the music department since 1978 after having taught high school band in Mountain View, California for seven years. Mr. Ehrlich also plays in the Cascade Symphony Orchestra where is the bass trombonist.

Jim Elenteny is an audio engineer and musician. He holds a Master of Music degree in Jazz Commercial Music, with a major in Composition and Arranging, from Five Towns College, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Five Towns College in Jazz/Commercial Music, with a major in Audio Engineering. Jim also holds a Bachelor of the Arts with a major in Anthroplogy from SUNY Stonybrook. Jim is an active perfomer in the Northwest, playing fingerstyle acoustic guitar as well as guitar and bass in local rock groups.

 


 

EnlowCharles Enlow

Charles Enlow has been richly praised throughout the United States and in Europe for his sensitive and virtuosic recital performances. In the Pacific Northwest, he has appeared frequently as a solo recitalist and as a collaborator with vocalists and chamber music ensembles.

 

A native of Idaho, Dr. Enlow began his study of the piano at the age of ten with Fern Coonrod. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Dr. Enlow attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. He has studied and coached with many master teachers, including Martin Canin, Mack McCray, Claude Frank, James Dick, Yo-Yo Ma, and Rosina Lhevinne. Scholarships and prizes include the Mary D. Bold Fellowship for Studies in Piano Performance, Mary Frances Bowles Couper endowed Presidential Scholarship in Piano Performance at the University of Texas at Austin, awards from the Federated Music Clubs, and the Battelle Research Center's Young Artists Series. In addition, he was twice Regional Winner and National Finalist in Music Teachers National Association Young Artists Competitions.

 

An active performer, Dr. Enlow has performed a variety of solo piano works from the French, Spanish, and Russian piano repertory. In addition to his performing career, Dr. Enlow has undertaken extensive research on the piano music of Gabriel Faurè. His dissertation study, "The Thirteen Piano Barcarolles of Gabriel Faurè: A Stylistic and Analytical Study," is currently being revised for publication at a later date.

 

As a collaborative pianist, Charles Enlow has worked with a variety of renowned vocalists including William Lewis, Darlene Wiley, Pamela South, and Elizabeth Mannion. From 1997-1998 he served as principal pianist and vocal coach with the Austrian American Mozart Academy in Salzburg, Austria. He has taught at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University, and is currently a member of the music faculty at Shoreline Community College, where he teaches collaborative piano, vocal ensemble performance, and co-directs Shoreline Community College's Opera Workshop and Spring musical.

Ennis teaches the Vocational Music Seminar, Music Business and The Craft of Songwriting at Shoreline Community College in Seattle, and holds B.A. degrees in English and German Literature from Willamette University and an M.A. in German Lit from University of California, Berkeley.   Sue is a Seattle-based songwriter/publisher who has co-written over 70 songs the for rock band, Heart. (30 million records sold.) Hits include "Dog and Butterfly," "Straight On," "Even It Up," "How Can I Refuse" and "Nobody's Home."   She has co-written songs for feature films including "The Golden Child" starring Eddie Murphy and "Thomas and The Magic Railroad." In 2005, her comic jingle for a Seattle roofing company, co-written with Hummie Mann, took 1st prize (a "Soundie"), in NW radio awards. She is the President of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of NARAS ("the Recording Academy.")

Bassist Steve Kim currently appears with guitarist Don Mock and percussionist Jacques Willis playing original music and jazz repertoire. He has also toured and performed with Larry Coryell, Alphonse Mouzon, Carter Jefferson, Dave Valentine, Jay Thomas and Scott Cossu.

 

He has been commissioned to compose for the Southern Arts Council, the Seattle Arts Commission, choreographers Bill Evans, Clay Talefero and Jeff Bickford, and northwest filmmaker Eric Patton. In 1987 Steve served as a cultural ambassador representing the City of Seattle in Japan, and in 1989 was honored as a Centennial Artist during the Washington State Centennial Celebration. In 2007 he returned to Japan, touring with guitarist Brian Nova & Vibraphonist Kiyoko Ami. He has studied bass with Ray Brown, Gary Peacock and composition / improvisation with the late Charlie Banacos.

 

Steve Kim is associate faculty in the music department at Shoreline Community College, and teaches privately through South Seattle Community College. In addition, he has taught at Pacific Lutheran University, The National Guitar Workshop, The Experience Music Project and the Roberts Music Institute.

 


 

FredrickFredrick Lokken

Fredrick Lokken directs the Chamber Chorale and Shoreline Singers, teaches private voice, and teaches conducting at Shoreline Community College, where he has been on the music faculty since 2000. Conductor of collegiate, community, and church choirs in Minnesota, California, and the Seattle area for over twenty years, he received the DMA degree in choral conducting from the University of Washington, where he studied with Abraham Kaplan and Joan Conlon. He has done further study under such eminent conductors as Helmuth Rilling, Joseph Flummerfelt, and Jon Washburn. Dr. Lokken also holds a degree in vocal performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and sang with the professional Dale Warland Singers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area for several years. In addition to his work at the college, Dr. Lokken is Artistic Director / Conductor of the award-winning Bellevue Chamber Chorus.

JenJensina Oliver

Known for her expressive and passionate performances, pianist Jensina Oliver (formerly Jensina Oliver Byington) has appeared as soloist and chamber musician in the United States, China, Canada, Europe, and Israel. Her performances with orchestra include appearances in June 2011 with the Hubei Provincial Orchestra of Wuhan, China, as well as concerts with the Orchestra of Southern Utah, Utah Philharmonia, Intermountain Chamber Orchestra, University of Washington Symphony, and University of Utah Symphony Orchestra. She was a national finalist of the MTNA Chamber Competition, was a resident artist at the Banff Chamber Music Festival, and has won several solo and concerto competitions throughout the United States.

 

Ms. Oliver has been praised by critics as "highly talented", with a "steely-fingered" technique and a flair for "panache and drama." (Salt Lake Tribune, 5/18/99) "Byington's command of dynamic phrasing infused each note with elegant intensity in slower passages; in virtuosic sections, she played with assuredness and authority." (S.L. Trib. 11/17/97) Ms. Oliver's first CD, "JENSINA BYINGTON performs Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff" was released in 2009 and is available for purchase on CDBaby.com. She has taught at the University of Utah, the University of Washington, and has been at Shoreline Community College since 1998, teaching Private Instruction Piano, Piano Literature, and all levels of Music Theory and Class Piano. Ms. Oliver currently resides in Seattle, Washington, where she is a well known performer, teacher, clinician, and adjudicator.

DainiusDainius Vaicekonis

Dainius Vaicekonis is well-known pianist and teacher in the Pacific Northwest. He leads his active performance career as soloist and collaborative artist in the US and Europe. He was soloist with the Lithuanian National Symphony, the University of Washington Symphony, Butte Montana Symphony, Bremerton Symphony, Port Angeles Symphony and Skagit Symphony. He was the winner in the Seattle Ladies Musical Club Award Tour Competition and the University of Washington Concerto Competition, as well as prizewinner in the International Franz Schubert Piano Competition in Dortmund, Germany.  

 

Dainius Vaicekonis studied and gained degrees from the National Ciurlionis School of Arts in Vilnius, the Lithuanian Academy of Music (BMA), the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg, Bowling Green State University, Ohio (M.M.) and the University of Washington (D.M.A). His mentors were celebrated European and American artists and teachers including Jerome Rose, Robin McCabe, Karl-Heinz Kammerling, Christian Zacharias, Muza Rubackyte and Jurgis Karnavicius.  

 

Dainius was recipient of the Gerberding Fellowship at the University of Washington. His dissertation "The Forest for the Trees: Beethoven piano sonatas as integrated cycles" was published in Germany in 2009. He has performed several times in Benaroya's Nordstrom Recital Hall, Meany Hall, on "Live by George" at KING FM and "The Beat" at KUOW public radio, Bumbershoot, and the UW Summer Arts Festival. Dr. Vaicekonis served as judge in MTNA competitions from 2004-2008 in the Pacific Northwest. Dainius also performs extensively with his wife Asta as a piano duo. Dr. Dainius Vaicekonis is affiliated with Shoreline Community College since 2002. He teaches private piano and piano classes.
