How to apply There are SIX simple steps. These steps need to be completed PRIOR to the application and registration deadlines.
Application & Registration Deadlines:
Step 1: Applications Consult with your high school counselor and parents or guardians about your readiness. Submit a Shoreline Community College Application for Admission form. Download application form: Admission application
Step 2: Schedule and take the COMPASS test You must take the COMPASS test to determine your readiness for English and Math courses. Call the Testing Center at (206) 546-4608 or go to Testingcenter to make an appointment to take the test. There is a $17 testing fee. It is mandatory to take the English part of the test. If you want to take a math class or other classes that require a prerequisite, you also need to take the math portion. Take the COMPASS test as scheduled. You must qualify for English 101 in both Reading and Writing skills to qualify for the Running Start program.
Step 3: Bring a copy of your test results to the Running Start Office regardless of the results.
Step 4: Meet with Your High School Counselor Meet with your high school counselor to complete the " Running Start Enrollment Verification Form ," listing the class(es) you wish to take. We strongly recommend you that you include a list of alternate classes as well. Quarterly Course Approval Forms must also be signed by a parent or guardian, even if you are 18 years old. For every quarter you attend Running Start you must complete this form with your counselor.
Step 5: Attend a new student Orientation & Registration session. To schedule a New Student Orientation and Registration session, call our office to schedule at 206-546-6906 or 206-546-4559. You must attend this session to register for classes. Bring your signed Quarterly Course Approval Form with you to this session.
Step 6: Submit high school transcripts to the Running Start Office.
