Steps to Success: Get Oriented

Welcome to Shoreline!

Even if you've already selected one of Shoreline's Programs of Study, ALL students who have never been enrolled at SCC are encouraged to attend New Student Orientation, especially if you will be working toward a degree or certificate.

Orientation will save you time and trouble by helping you start off on the right foot.  You will:

  • navigate the registration process
  • learn about campus resources that will help you succeed
  • identify your goals and how to achieve them

Find out about orientation

Please take the COMPASS test prior to attending an orientation session and bring your results with you.  If you have attended college previously, please bring your transcripts with you to orientation.  This will enable you to register for many key classes.

Benefits of Orientation

  1. Familiarizes you to time schedule, catalogue, campus services, policies and procedures
  2. Identifies planning sheets corresponding with academic, educational and/or career goals
  3. Connects you to faculty for assistance in selecting appropriate coursework for plan of study
  4. Assists you in finding a healthy balance between academic and personal demands
  5. Establishes a permanent academic advisor for you
  6. Provides (as needed) an evaluation of previous college transcripts & an assessment of both  Mathematics and English course placement/requirements
  7. Assists new students in getting registered for classes
