Shoreline Community College is pleased to have the privilege of offering students an excellent education for free, through the Opportunity Grant, which is given to us from the State of Washington. The idea of this program is to offer students training to enter the workforce as quickly as possible, or continue training (if other financial aid is not an option) and to direct students into a career ladder that provides stability and self-sufficiency.

 

The Opportunity Grant is for students enrolled in Automotive, Accounting, Business Technology, Education, Health Information Informatics Technology, Manufacturing, Phlebotomy, Visual Communication Technology, and Clean Energy Technology. These programs have short-term training available often leading to living wage jobs in less than a year in fields that currently have a high number of vacancies.

 

Types of Assistance

  • Eligible students get free tuition and fees for 45 credits
  • $1000.00 for books and/or tools while they are earning the 45 credits
  • Financial assistance for certain emergency situations

Eligibility

  • Must be a resident of the State of Washington as determined by the college
  • Must not already have an Associates (or higher) degree from the US
  • Must meet Income 2011-2012 Guidelines shown on following table:
